For this assignment, I would like you to sythesize your experiences with writing in the personal narrative and memoir genres by describing the similarities and differences.
Write one full paragraph on the similarities between the genres and a second paragraph on the differences.
Writing the memoir and the personal narrative I noticed some things that were the same and some that were different.
ReplyDeleteA thing that I noticed that were the same between the memoir and the personal narrative is that they are booth memories from the narrator's life.
Some things I noticed were different. One thing I noticed was that the personal narrative was a short moment and the memoir is over a period of time. I also noticed that in the memoir we made up a character and made up a memory and in the personal narrative it was about something that happened in our lives.
I loved this h.w assignment! I love tht we get to create our own character!It was easy for me because I'm already writing a novel, but it was diffrent because I got to add something new to my story.

ReplyDeleteThe differences of memoir writing compared to personal narrative are switching from show to tell. Also, as a personal narrative takes place in just one small moment, memoir writing has many different moments, like beads on a string. Each "bead" is a moment in memoir writing that the main character encounters. Those are how the two are different.
In both my personal narrative and my memoir I've noticed some similarities. I've noticed that in both I had to use dialog. Also I had to establish the setting.
ReplyDeleteI noticed differences in the two as well. In the personal narrative I had to use the "show-don't-tell" technique constantly. As opposed to the memoir when I had to alternate from show to tell throughout the piece. In the memoir I had to make up a character and the characters situation witch made it a little bit more challenging.

Also personal narrative is an acual story that happened in your own life, while with a memoir you have to make up a personal narrative story for your character. One last thing is that Memoris have a pattern ( Tell,show,tell,show,tell) and always end with a life lesson.

In both of the personal narrative and memoir writing genres, there are some similarities and some differences. For instance, when writing the personal narrative, you tried to write in show don't tell as much as possible. We also had to write about something that happened in our lives. Personal narratives also happen in one moment, while memoirs can jump around. The memoir writing is also different because you follow a specific format of show, tell, show, tell and end with a life lesson. Lastly, the memoir is different because we are all writing about a fictional character's life that we made up instead of writing about our own lives.

One similarity’s that I saw in both the memoir writing and personal narrative is that we used we took an important time in a person’s life and we wrote about it. Another is that we had a problem and revealed it with a life learned lesson.

In a Personal Narritive you have to use the show don't tell technique in a memoir you don't. A Memoir has a lesson at the end, Personal Narritves dont't. A Personal Narritive has a plot line to it and a Memoir follows the tell show tell show tell and always ends with a tell.
The simularities I noticed between writing a memior and a personal narrative was it was first person narration and each was about real things happening to us.
ReplyDeleteThe differences I noticed are that in a personal narrative its a small moment in our lives and in memiors its over a long period of time and it shows how we learn a life lesson.
Some Similarities in Menmoirs and Personal Narratives are that they are both in the first person narration. They both have symbloism. They also have Dialogue.

One of them is that Personal Narratives are just one little moment in a Idea.While in a Memoir its a bigger idea but not a huge idea. Memoirs also have a life lesson in them.Personal Narratives usually are all show while Memoirs go from show to tell.
Personal narritive is the same as memoir because they both have dialogue, although I found memoir had more dialogue. Another thing that is alike is that they are both written in first narration. They also can both have symbolism if the author wants to have symbolism.
ReplyDeletePersonal narritive and memoir are different because they personal narritives are zoomed into one very small moment in your life, memoir can be a over a long period of time. Another reason they are different is because personal narritive is mostly show, and you try to show in narritives as much as possible. In memoirs you use a show-tell-show-tell format, and you always end in a tell.
Personal narritive is the same as a memoir because a they both tell a story about your self and the obstical you had to over come, and what you did to solve that obstical.

Personal narritives and Memoir were very different and a lot alike.
